The International Bionic Science and Technology Award (IBSTA) honors researchers who have achieved internationally recognized breakthrough contributions in the fields of bionic science and technology, including fundamental research, technological invention, technology transfer, and engineering application. IBSTA represents the highest international award in field of bionic science and technology.
The selection is conducted triennially, with 1 recipient selected each time. The selection criteria are as follows:
2.1 Original Scientific Innovations: Achieving bionic accomplishments with original innovations in scientific principles, which have been internationally recognized as groundbreaking scientific breakthroughs.
2.2 Practical Technological Inventions: Achievements are successfully applied in fields such as industrial upgrading, environmental protection, healthcare, and other fields, substantially promoting global scientific and technological, economic, and social development.
3.1 Eligibility for Recommendation: Nominators shall be limited to ISBE Fellows, internationally recognized professors and scholars in the field of bionic science and technology, and previous recipients of the IBSTA. Self-nominations shall not be accepted.
3.2. Documentation Requirements: Two recommendation letters, one application form, and relevant supporting materials shall be submitted.
3.3. Timeline: The selection process will be held in the same year as the International Conference of Bionic Engineering (ICBE).
4.1 Preliminary Evaluation: The International Academy of Bionic Science (IABS) shall nominate and establish the IBSTA evaluation committee, and commence its work upon approval by the ISBE Executive Board. The IBSTA evaluation committee, comprising 5 experts, shall identify 1 candidate through a comprehensive assessment framework. This evaluation integrates a weighted quantitative scoring system accounting for Innovativeness (40%), Academic Influence (30%), and Practical Applications (30%).
4.2 Final Evaluation: The final evaluation shall be conducted via correspondence ballot among ISBE Fellows. The result shall be deemed valid only if it receives affirmative votes from no fewer than two-thirds (2/3) of the participating ISBE Fellows, and the total number of valid ballots exceeds one-half of the total membership of ISBE Fellows. The IBSTA evaluation result shall be submitted by IABS to the ISBE Executive Board for review and final approval.
The award recipient will be presented with a certificate and a monetary prize. He/She will deliver a plenary speech at the same time.
This regulation shall be interpreted and revised by the IABS.
